Missouri has researched State Speed Limits extensively and have found that drivers typically travel at speeds they are comfortable with depending on road and weather conditions.  For this reason, Missouri’s speed limits are based on research that supports the safe and reasonable speeds at which most drivers travel on specific roadways. 

• In residential areas and school zones – 25 mph

• On rural interstates – 70 mph

• On urban interstates – 60 mph

You will be ticketed if you are exceeding these speed limits, even if they are not posted.  In addition, you will receive a fine of $250.00 if you are speeding in a work zone with workers present.
